Basic Level Course - NR 20
The Basic Safety Course with Flammable and Combustible Materials NR 20 is mandatory according to NR-20 for workers involved in the processes of extraction, production, storage, transfer, handling and manipulation of flammable and combustible liquids, in addition to those who perform short, punctual operations or maintain direct contact with processing.

What does the Course Cover?
The Course addresses the minimum and complementary requirements provided for by NR 20 and other Applicable Standards regarding safety procedures, health preservation and accident prevention in activities involving class I, II or III flammable and combustible installations.

What are Class I, Class II and Class III of NR 20?
Class I

a) Regarding the activity:
a.1 – service stations with flammable and/or combustible liquids.
a.2 – activities involving the distribution of flammable gases through pipes in facilities with Maximum Allowable Working Pressure – PMTA limited to 18.0 kgf/cm2
b) Regarding storage capacity, permanently and/or temporarily:
b.1 – flammable gases: above 2 tons up to 60 tons;
b.2 – flammable and/or combustible liquids: above 10 m³ up to 5,000 m³

Class II
a) Regarding the activity:
a.1 – bottling plants for flammable gases;
a.2 – pipeline transportation activities for flammable and/or combustible gases and liquids.
a.3 – pipeline distribution activities for flammable gases in facilities with Maximum Allowable Working Pressure – PMTA above 18.0 kgf/cm².
b) Regarding storage capacity, permanently and/or temporarily:
b.1 – flammable gases: above 60 tons up to 600 tons;
b.2 – flammable and/or combustible liquids: above 5,000 m³ up to 50,000 m³

Class III
a) Regarding the activity:
a.1 – refineries;
a.2 – natural gas processing units;
a.3 – petrochemical facilities;
a.4 – ethanol production plants.
b) Regarding storage capacity, permanently and/or temporarily:
b.1 – flammable gases: over 600 tons;
b.2 – flammable and/or combustible liquids: over 50,000 m³
